On Site: Nordlys, Month Fourteen

Fourteen months in, the site has gone quiet in the way a construction site goes quiet when the noisy trades finish and the careful ones start. The groundworks and frame are done; what's left this month is the envelope, and the pace shows it.
What's struck me on this visit is how much of the granite shoulder is visible again. During the dig it was buried under spoil and shuttering; now the ground floor's concrete sits directly on the rock the brief always asked for, and you can finally see the relationship we drew eighteen months ago actually holding up in daylight.
Next visit is scheduled for the glazing installation — the point at which the house stops being a frame and starts being a room.
