Private house — Hafjord, Norway — 2025
Nordlys House
A single-family house cut into a granite shoulder above the fjord. The brief asked for a house that reads as continuous with the rock it sits on — the ground floor is board-formed concrete bearing directly on bedrock, and the timber-framed upper floor is set back so the roofline stays below the treeline from the water. Three bedrooms, a double-height living space facing north across the fjord, and a study cut half into the hillside.
